Lompoc Pops Masthead

March 2020
By Connie Barlow

When Dr. Brian Asher Alhadeff came to the Pops five years ago, the orchestra was reasonably good but in desperate need of a new direction. Foremost in the minds of the Board of Directors was the desire for an outstanding, energetic and extremely talented conductor who could attract and recruit the finest musicians on the Central Coast. It was also important that this individual meet the goals of the Pops Orchestra, which has always been to emulate the Boston Pops in primarily providing its audiences with popular favorites that have survived the ages. He or she absolutely needed to be "in tune" with the desires of the members, both loyal patrons as well as new or occasional attendees, by presenting musical selections audiences have asked to hear. And finally, it was hoped the new conductor would be comfortable in developing a warm and genuine relationship with the audience.

Conductor Brian Alhadeff continues to bring extremely talented vocal and instrumental professionals to Lompoc, and because of it, THE POPS has been selected once again as the "Best Musical Event"  in town, based on a city-wide reader poll.
