LOMPOC POPS ORCHESTRA PRESS RELEASE
SEPTEMBER 2018
By Connie Barlow

In October of 1997, the premier concert of the Lompoc Pops Orchestra took place, much to the delight of an enthusiastic Central Coast audience. The event was so successful that from that time forward, “The Pops” became a staple in the cultural events of Lompoc.

Initially inspired and conceived by then concertmaster Diane Siminski, along with the guidance of USAF Brigadier General Paul Maye, the Lompoc Pops repertoire was modeled after the traditional music played by the famous Boston Pops Orchestra.

Lompoc Pops concerts feature recognizable works of great American composers, but also short and well-known classical pieces. The orchestra shines on Patriotic favorites, Broadway and television medleys and occasional operatic arias. Western and spiritual classics, as well as timeless pieces from the ’40s, ’50s, ’60s and beyond are also featured, along with occasional promising new compositions.

Of course, back at that 1997 premier concert, no one knew if the Lompoc Pops would even survive, but decades later it continues to expand and thrive to appreciative audiences. Under the inspirational baton of Dr. Brian Asher Alhadeff, four full concerts are presented each year with top musicians from the entire Central Coast providing their talents. Soloists are always outstanding in their respective fields and include both vocalists and guest instrumentalists.
