LOMPOC POPS ORCHESTRA
PRESS RELEASE

June 2019
By Connie Barlow

Concluding its 2018-2019 concert season, the Lompoc Pops Orchestra returns on Monday evening, June 24th for an incredible and exciting performance celebrating great American favorites with a special nod to the sounds of the 70s disco.

This amazing 45-50-piece orchestra is composed of both professional and semi-professional musicians and has consistently attracted the finest musicians on the California central Coast. Directed by Dr. Brian Asher Alhadeff, The Pops performs four concerts every season for the benefit of the Lompoc Valley and surrounding communities. Its purpose has always been to emulate the Boston Pops in keeping alive the wonderful music that has been popular and beloved over the ages… music that can encompass a wide variety of entertainment including Broadway hits, television and movie theme compositions, patriotic pieces, jazz and Big Band favorites, Western toe-tappers, traditional, seasonal selections and light, short classics. The orchestra may even perform a current pop-culture creation, a patron request or a lovely opera aria as well.

For the final concert of this season, the program features “Disco Hits Medley”, “Salute to the Cinema”, “The Girl from Ipanema”, “Smoke on the Water”, and a special Sousa march. Also on the menu will be “Selections from Ragtime” as well as “Selections from Annie”.

Finally, in a special tribute to Doris Day, the orchestra will be performing “By the Light of the Silvery Moon”.

It’s a concert sure to please all ages and all musical tastes!
