Dedicated to the Memory of

ALICE McGONIGAL

(1947-2018)

By Dr. Brian Asher Alhadeff

Alice McGonigal served as Principal Flute in the San Luis Obispo Symphony since September 1975. She also served as Principal Flute of the Lompoc Pops Orchestra and Santa Maria Philharmonic, and was the founding Principal Flutist for Opera San Luis Obispo.

In addition to flute, Alice also played the piccolo, alto flute, bass flute, fife, Irish-folk flute, guitar (for children at school), some viola and cello. Alice sang, conducted and arranged music too.

Alice was a very kind and supportive member of the Lompoc Pops Orchestra since the beginning. I remember how Alice would cut out the newspaper article of LPO concert's and place them on my music stand at the first rehearsal every time. She was so proud of the Pops and happy to be part of our family.

Alice's last live performance happened to be our September 17, 2018 concert. She has left an indelible positive impression on the artistic climate of the Central Coast and will never be forgotten.
