LINDA BAIRD - Mezzo-Soprano

Praised for resonant, flexible singing, Canadian mezzo-soprano Linda Baird’s 2018/2019 season includes her debuts as Judith Bluebeard's Castle (California Opera Association), Third Lady The Magic Flute (Opera San Luis Obispo), The Mother Ahmal and the Night Visitors (COA), Flora La Traviata (COA), Mercedes Carmen (Townsend Opera Modesto), and Carmen Carmen (COA).

Her 2017/2018 season included: Suzuki Madame Butterfly (Townsend Opera Modesto), Kate and Suzuki cover Madame Butterfly (Opera SLO), Fricka Die Walküre (Heroic Opera, Vancouver, Canada), and Tisbe La Cenerentola (COA).

Linda is a native of North Vancouver, BC, Canada, and a Master of Music in Opera graduate from The University of British Columbia. Linda resides in San Francisco and works as a teaching artist for San Francisco Opera.



Sarah Raines, Soprano


Sarah is a graduate of NYU in classical voice, sings professionally all along the central coast. Last spring she performed in Oklahoma! at Opera San Luis Obispo, and she will return to OperaSLO in October as the Second Spirit and Papagena cover in The Magic Flute. Sarah has also been featured in productions by The Great American Melodrama, SLO Repertory Theatre, and will be starting her third season with Opera Santa Barbara this fall. In addition to classical music, she is also a seasoned music theatre actress, recently seen as the jump-roping-while-singing role of Brooke Wyndham in Legally Blonde. Some of her other favorite roles include Sister Berthe in The Sound of Music, and Hope Harcourt in Anything Goes. Locally, she produces the Lompoc Youth Theatre, which will be celebrating its ten-year anniversary next summer.

Ben Contreras, Tenor

Ben Contreras Jr. is of second generation Lompoc vintage and was a professional musician from 1971 to 1979, when he performed with Jerry and Dick Van Dyke in Reno, Lake Tahoe, and Atlantic City. Ben also toured for one and a half years throughout California with Chuck Berry beginning in 1978.

Ben plays the drums/trap sets and congas as well as being an seasoned vocalist. For 20 years running, he entertained with various groups on Lompoc’s Ryon Park stage for the annual Lompoc Valley Flower Festival, playing with several bands: Black Hills Gold, Hard Times, and Storm. 

He also performs frequently with local groups The Agin Brothers and Territorial Law at Monty and Pat Roberts Flags Up Ranch in Buellton, Brooks Firestone Vineyards, and the Alisal Guest Ranch for summer concerts as well as other venues in the Santa Ynez Valley.

Ben can also be heard singing the National Anthem for the Men’s and Women’s UCSB's Gaucho Basketball home games in the Thunderdome.

Mr. Contreras has been past president and is currently vice president of the Lompoc Pops Orchestra and says that music is an inspiration and will always be a part of his life.
